NEW AUTUMN & WINTER EVENTS PROGRAMME

 

We are pleased to announce our new events programme effective immediately and until 1st March 2010:

  • · TUESDAY 19.00 to 21.00 - Open Club Play session

  • · WEDNESDAY 19.00 to 21.00 - Closed Ladies Team Practice session (by invitation of Ladies Team Captain only)

  • · FRIDAY 19.00 to 21.00 - Closed Men’s team Practice Session (by invitation of Men’s Team Captain only)

  • · SUNDAY - 11.00 to 13.00 - Open Club Play session

    •

    These organised events, and any coaching sessions will obviously take priority over all other usage apart from matches. At all other times the courts remain open to members for private use and we would obviously encourage everyone to make maximum use of them.

    Wimbledon Ballot:  British Tennis advise that Club Members must also join British Tennis to be eligible for the Wimbledon ticket ballot,

    Please make sure you renew your membership to Pensford Tennis Club by the end of April and also join British Tennis at the same time to be in with a chance for Wimbledon tickets.

    The All England Club, Wimbledon have announced that a star line-up of Andre Agassi, Stefanie Graf, Kim Clijsters and Tim Henman will become the first to play tennis under the new Centre Court roof as part of its A Centre Court Celebration event on Sunday 17 May 2009. Tickets priced at £35.00 each will go on general sale via Ticketmaster www.ticketmaster.co.uk and 0844 847 2481 at 10.00am on Thursday 12 March 2009.  There will be no on-day sales at the turnstiles.

    17 January 2009 A start of season open day has been organised and will be held on Sunday 5th April. This event will be given publicity and open to the public. We hope to have a barbecue - weather permitting.
    17 January 2009 The courts have been professionally cleaned, the floodlights have been mended and enclosed with a safety mesh. Play resumes 19th January.

    Thornbury Lawn Tennis Club are going to Wimbledon on Friday 19th of September to see the first two singles rubbers of GB versus Austria. They have a few tickets available on the 07.30 coach from Thornbury and good seats on Court One, and tennis enthusiasts are invited to join them, first come first served.  Inclusive cost is £46. They hope to see Andy Murray take on Melzer, and Bogdanovic against Peya.  Email or ring James Morrell on 01454 632671 for more details.

    The Club has entered a team in the Winter League for 2008/09.

    A team consists of two ladies & two men and the matches are two same sex rubbers and two mixed rubbers. The matches (max. 5 home, 5 away) usually on a Sunday morning are arranged Oct 2008 – March 2009.

    Hopefully we can finish the Ladies veterans matches before playing any Winter League.

    Fixture list to be published when the matches have been arranged.

    On Sunday 6th July the Tennis Club hut was subjected to criminal damage. The matter was reported to the Police Crime Reference: 76296/08. Police are following up the incident and will keep us informed 

     

    On Monday 7th or Tuesday 8th July the floodlights were subject to criminal damage. The matter was reported to the Police Crime Reference: 77350/08

     

    Police are following up the incidents and will keep us informed.

     

    Sadly! We believe these two acts of mindless vandalism against the Tennis Club were perpetrated by local youths. We would appreciate information or assistance to trace the culprits. If you can help, please contact any Committee Member in confidence, or call Keynsham Police, quoting the above reference numbers.

    We will be holding a Duck Race and BBQ on Sunday 14th September at 2pm. This event is to raise funds for the tennis club. It will be held at Mill House, Woollard. Ducks will cost £1 and BBQ £5.     23 October 2007 The Ladies Doubles will be held on 18th November - sign in at 10.30am for play to start at 11am.  Please bring refreshments for everyone to share.  Club play will take place afterwards, so all players are invited.

    Our AGM will be held 27th November at 7.30pm in the upstairs room at the Rising Sun, Church Street, Pensford.  Refreshments provided. All committee positions are up for election (Chair; Treasurer; Men's Captain, Ladies Captain; Match Secretary; Minute Secretary; General Members. The incumbent Men's Captain is standing down - the post involves selecting male league players, keeping the match scores and attending the committee meetings. Please will all club members consider taking up the committee positions - there are no more than six meetings held a year. The AGM is an excellent time to come and make suggestions, or express views - all suggestions and expressed views are very welcome - please send Agenda items to the Secretary.  We look forward to seeing you there.
